Flighters was about exploring feelings towards my hometown, Sunderland, and my changing relationship with it as I have grown up whilst living there. I see it as a place with unique spirit, resilience and humour, but also a lot of deeply suppressed pain which manifests in strange and unusual ways.
It's also a lot brighter than people usually expect it to be. My wife Rachael sang beautiful lead vocals on all of the tracks and we recorded it in the home studio we'd just started building in our then new home.
